This will be a “spiral tunnel hike” combining Paget Peak – a good railway viewpoint – (530 m; 7.4 km) with the “Walk in the Past” trail (120 m; 2.7 km) on the Yoho Valley road east of Field. This second interpretive trail explores the CPR “Big Hill” with its Spiral Tunnels and the old railway route. There will also be brief stops at the Lower Spiral Tunnel Viewpoint (on Highway 1) and the Upper Spiral Tunnel Viewpoint (on Yoho Valley Road). Moderate outing with some Rockies historical background. Dungaree overalls and engineer caps optional.
