The Covid-19 Pandemic exemplifies the long-running battle between microbes and humanity. An agent infecting another species mutates to be able to infect humans and then transmit between humans, eventually becoming a serious threat to all humans. The SARS-Cov-2 virus is so complex and dangerous that it has united the best scientists, world-wide, to analyze it, and learn how to prevent its spread and treat its illness. The culmination of it all is the rapid development of new and ingenious vaccines that will ramp up our most powerful weapon against infectious disease, the human immune system.
Peter Nichol B.A. (Zoology), M.D., F.R.C.P.C., is a recently retired Internist/Cardiologist with career-long experience in treating viral, bacterial, and fungal heart and lung infections. He has cared for TB patients in Northern Ontario, and TB/HIV and Leprosy patients in Tanzania. He is also a life-long sufferer of “man-colds”, severe influenza, and even an episode of viral encephalitis.
