Joy received her Masters in Nursing from the University of Alberta, with a  varied clinical career, from critical care to palliative home care.

A year following retirement she received the formal diagnosis of Osteoporosis in 2021 . She spent a great deal of time researching the condition and is committed to increasing awareness of bone health with all ages. She is Bone Fit certified in Canada, which means she has specialized knowledge for directing exercises for people with osteoporosis and low bone mineral density, in a safe manner.  Her  other passions are strength training, bikes, dogs and cross country skiing. She is a Level 3 CANSI ( Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors) instructor and a community coach
