Notes:

Patrick Waring is Park Development Officer with Alberta Parks – Kananaskis Region. He is responsible for coordinating the Kananaskis Volunteer Stewards program.

Patrick Waring joined the Alberta Parks family in 2018 as a Park Ranger working within the Bow Valley District. Patrick held a variety of positions in Parks until July of 2022 when he accepted the role of Park Development Officer for the Kananaskis Region, focusing on the management of recreation and tourism based dispositions while also continuing to coordinate the Kananaskis Volunteer Steward program. Patrick grew up in picturesque High River, Alberta finding his passion for the mountains at the headwaters of the (never newsworthy) Highwood River. Outside of work he can be found with his pets, fishing, camping, hiking, and generally enjoying the outdoors.

Come and learn about this excellent volunteer program, and decide if this is for you.

The program includes:

  • Combining your concern for environmental protection and your love of hiking by being a steward
  • Participation in events organized by Alberta Parks and partnering organizations
  • Noting and reporting disturbances like vandalism, illegal campsites, litter, environmental degradation and invasive species.
  • Participating in work parties to remedy the reported disturbances
  • Additional projects include GPS mapping, wildlife camera monitoring and wildlife fence surveying
