Notes:
The first half on Moraine Lake road and Fairview trail is machine tracked and groomed. The second half is – off machine groomed tracks but – most likely skier tracked. Light touring skis with steel edges recommended, ( skins would be an extra bonus for a short moderately steep ascent ). May involve breaking new trail . We’ll only ski to the third bridge crossing Paradise Creek without avalanche exposure ! if enough time ( short daylight hrs. ) and energy there is the option to return on the Fairview trail loop.
Recon Dec. 11th: Paradise Valley access trail mostly clear of obstacles with sufficient snow but it was evident that wider BC-X country type skis with steel edges are required to safely ski down the more narrow-winding and steep section of the trail in hard packed snow conditions. Kick skins made ascending the steeper parts of the trail easier. The new snow predicted for the coming week would make ‘herring bone” climbing more difficult but on the other hand the fresh snow would make the decent slower and safer to navigate!
