We have a timely start because of limited parking at Emerald lake, there is free parking but a NP’s pass is required.
We’ll hike along Emerald lake to the turn off to the basin followed by a moderately steep -ascent ( bypassing an erosional canyon ) to a natural amphitheater with an impressive alpine scenery. Along the way we are passing through a stand of ancient cedar- hemlock trees reminding one of a ” miniature rain forest ” and further up, through wildflowers in the peak bloom.
We may encounter the odd snow patch or avalanche debris.
On the way back we may stop at the ” Natural Bridge “.
