Notes:
February is Heart Month in Canada, an occasion to increase awareness of heart healthy habits and heart disease. Heart disease was the second most common cause of death in Canada in 2023 (following cancer). Fortunately there are many ways to decrease the risk of developing or dying of heart disease. In this talk I will briefly cover cardiac anatomy and physiology, primary prevention of heart disease through lifestyle factors and medication for high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and the diagnosis and management of common heart conditions including atrial fibrillation, heart block, coronary artery disease, valvular diseases and heart failure.
