A short tip to underline some issues you need to know if you plan to visit Mexico.
There are restrictions on what you can bring into Mexico – even as a tourist. The most important ones to remember (these are all “per person”):
- Only one “portable computing device”. That means a tablet OR a laptop. If you bring both you will be charged duties of 19% on the value of the extra device.
- Only one set of binoculars. This might be important if you are going bird watching.
- Two cameras, three cellphones.
Obviously, the biggest issue is #1, and several people have had to pay duty for bringing more than one device. You can find the entire list on many websites, but unless you have an unusual suitcase full of items, these are the most common ones to be careful with.
